Act I · Collection and signal

Observe

We look before we speak, and we write down what we see before we decide what it means.

Observation is a discipline, not a mood. We collect only from sources we are entitled to use, we note where every piece came from, and we keep the raw record apart from our reading of it.

Most of what arrives is noise. The work is to notice the few things that are not.

  1. Provenance first

    Every item carries its source, its time, and how we came by it. An item without provenance is a rumour, and we file it as one.

  2. Signal over volume

    More collection is not more knowledge. We stop gathering when the next item stops changing the picture.

  3. Observe, then interpret

    The record and our reading of it live apart, so either can be checked without the other.

We do notcollect beyond the question in front of us, or by means we would not defend.

Act II · Correlation and judgment

Decide

We say only what the evidence supports — and we say how strongly it supports it.

Deciding is where most mistakes are made, because it is where people want to be finished. We set observations against each other, look for what agrees and what does not, and keep the explanation that survives.

Where two readings remain, we keep both on the table and name what would separate them.

  1. Corroborate

    One source is a lead. Independent agreement is a finding.

  2. State confidence

    Every conclusion carries a confidence and the reason for it. “Likely” and “confirmed” are different words, and we use them differently.

  3. Argue against ourselves

    Before a conclusion stands, one of us tries in earnest to break it.

We do notlet a good story outrun the evidence, or round uncertainty up to certainty.

Act III · Deliberate, verified action

Execute

We act on purpose, inside the lines we agreed, and we check that the action did what we meant.

Action is the smallest step that answers the question. We settle the scope before we move and stay inside it once we have. When something falls outside it, we stop and ask rather than widen it ourselves.

Then we verify. An action we have not checked is an action we only hope happened.

  1. Scope before motion

    What we will touch, and what we will not, is settled before the first step.

  2. Least necessary

    We choose the quietest action that does the job, and we stop when it is done.

  3. Verify the result

    We confirm the outcome against what we intended and report it as it is — including when it went wrong.

We do notimprovise past our authority, or call a step done before we have seen it done.

Act IV · Documented and retained

Remember

If it is not written down, it did not happen. If it did not happen, it is not written down.

Memory is what turns a single job into a practice. We record what we did, why we did it, and what we found, in words a teammate can pick up cold.

We keep what the work requires, for as long as it requires, and no longer. And we never fill a gap with something invented: a blank is honest; a guess dressed as a fact is not.

  1. Write it plainly

    Notes are for the next person to read, not for us to admire.

  2. Correct in the open

    Corrections are added, never hidden. The record shows what we knew and when we knew it.

  3. Retain with intent

    We hold what the work needs and let go of what it does not.

We do notfabricate — not a source, not a figure, not a detail.

Quiet. Private. Precise.
